An assembly can reference many separate files. Use an inspection task to establish what is active, what you intend to change, and which source files must remain untouched.
Establish the context
Open the assembly and select its project in Chippo. Confirm the active configuration and whether SolidWorks is editing the assembly or a component in context. Save a test copy with its references managed appropriately before experimenting.
Ask for an inspection
Begin with a request that does not authorize changes:
Inspect the active assembly and configuration. Identify the current edit target and the selected component. Summarize the component and mate information the available tools can read. Report missing or unresolved references. Do not change components, mates or files.
Use the returned tool results to understand what was actually inspected. If some information is unavailable, treat the review as incomplete. A summary does not establish that every referenced file or mate was checked.
Narrow the next action
After reviewing the results, name one component and a specific goal:
For the selected bracket, identify the dimension controlling its mounting-hole spacing. Explain which document and configuration would be edited. Do not change it yet.
Confirm the source document before authorizing a modification. An assembly reference alone is not permission to edit its source part or replace it throughout the project.
Verify the outcome
After an authorized change, check the edited document, configuration, mate status and rebuild errors. Inspect relevant clearances in SolidWorks using the engineering checks your design requires. Reading component information does not prove collision-free motion, load capacity or a valid assembly.
Automatic learning and reuse of complete assembly rules is a product direction, not a released capability promised by this guide.
Next steps
- Review projects and current objects for document and edit-target boundaries.
- Use change a model parameter for a bounded part edit.
- Read risk and confirmation before deletion or reference replacement.
